Three Kings Epiphany Service and Celebration 2013

A combined bilingual service celebrated the Epiphany on January 6th. In Latin American and Caribbean countries, Three Kings is traditionally an important celebration of children and innocence in the world, as it was revealed to the Magi in the baby Jesus. In that tradition, we celebrated by inviting the children to re-enact the story of the Three Kings in our pageant, gave gifts to the children, and shared fellowship with refreshments in our parish hall.

Christmas 2012 Greetings

Christmas Service Schedule 2012:

Monday December 24th Christmas Eve: 4:30 PM

Tuesday December 25th Christmas Day: 12:00 Noon

Christmas greetings as we welcome our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in this world!

Dear Sisters and Brothers,

The shooting of 20 innocent children and eight adults at Sandy Hook Elementary School, in Newtown, CT, left many of us broken. In our Parish, the unexpected death of Bernard Osuagwu’s mother and the Rev. Lisa’s grandmother made us question the presence of God in our midst. But these sad events also showed God at work – from the courageous Principal, Dawn Hochsprung who tried to wrestle the gun man to heroic teacher Victoria Soto who hid her class in closets at the cost of her own life. These persons lost their lives by giving life – giving themselves as ultimate Christmas gifts to those lovely kids. The President has finally taken a stance against guns – something to celebrate! Beloved, mass shootings and gun violence is something we can prevent – make sensible laws that control how people get guns in our nation. We hope our leaders will do the right thing. In the meanwhile let us pray for all those who lost their loved ones.

Speaking about hope, our parish has continued to meet with diocesan officials to discern the future of our buildings. We understand that this is a very sensitive issue that demands prayerful reflections. We are hopeful nevertheless that God will not fail us and you will stand with us as we await God’s will. If anything, we are prayerfully optimistic that our ministry in Hyde Park will not fail if we choose to follow God’s guidance. So let us join Mary in responding with faith: “Behold, I am the servant of the Lordlet it be to me according to your word” (Lk 1:38).

Friends, it is not our buildings that make our Church – we do. From the youngest child to the oldest, we make Christ Church and ISJ. The signs that God is with us abound. Our parish has received the services of Rev. Dr. Lisa Fortuna, whose special responsibilities include working closely with Iglesia de San Juan and the youth. Mr. Leo Colon has coordinated our music program in this community – giving all children an opportunity to learn music. Our music recital was successful and our Sunday Schools continue to grow with the help of Anne Gordon in Christ Church and Maria Sun in ISJ. Indeed, his name is Emmanuel – God with us. So rejoice!

Dear friends, in our celebrations, however, we should not forget the real meaning of Christmas. Christmas is about God’s self-giving love in the baby Jesus to the fallen world; and Mary’s willingness to become God’s instrument of love to the world. This year, we invite you to emulate God in giving to the poor; the homeless and all those who need help in our community. Become an instrument of God’s love to the world this season and stand for justice at all costs.

In the light of Christmas, we invite you to Christmas Services on December 24 Christmas Eve, 4:30 PM; Christmas Day: 12: PM. On Sunday December 30, we will resume our 10:00 AM:  English Service and 12 PM: Spanish Service. Please make an effort to attend Rev. Lisa’s ordination to priesthood on Jan. 12, 2013, at the Cathedral of St. Paul – 138 Tremont St, Boston, at 10 AM. We look forward to your active participation in these services.

Merry Christmas and blessed New Year!

Navidad 2012
